Charu Rachlis, raised and educated as a psychologist in Brazil, has been inspired by mind, body, breath connection from an early age. She has over 18 years of movement experience from dance to gymnastics to Kum Nye (Tibetan Yoga) and meditation. She lived for three years working and studying at a Tibetan Buddhist monastery. For almost two years, she volunteered at the Zen hospice caring for the dying. She began her formal study of Iyengar yoga in 1994 with Thomas Fortel and has been teaching in San Francisco for over seven years.

The traditional series of Asthanga yoga has a great impact in her practice and teachings. She also combines Iyengar alignment work and a strong foundation in meditation during her classes. Charu says, “Yoga is a Path, a path of self-study, it is not something separate from our every day activities, it is present in thought, words and actions, it is a state of beingness, presence, a way of perceiving unity in all that we do.”

Charu's intention is to provide a natural place for exploration between mind, body, breath and soul. Her classes are guided towards self acceptance and self love. Charu says, “Through the practices of yoga, we reach a more subtle and essential practice which is self love and self healing. Accepting where we are, being present and enjoying the journey is an invitation to beingness.”
